ALABAMA JUBILEE IS COMING!!!

It's time again for the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic! This Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd and 24th, Troop 260 will be selling collectible t-shirts for the Alabama Jubilee. This is our 4th year doing this fundraiser, and we like to do a good job again so that the Alabama Jubilee doesn't give the job to another charitable organization that needs to raise funds. We aren't doing the yard sale this year, so we are down one fundraiser!

In a nutshell, we have scouts (and parents too, if they wish) come out and man the t-shirt tent. It's an easy job, in the shade, and we just sit around in chairs when there's no customers. I've split the weekend up into two-hour shifts; and you can sign up for multiple shifts.

Alabama Jubilee has lots of balloons of course, but they also have carnival food, free entertainment, and other family activities. In the years past, I've had scouts come out and work a few hours and then hang around to have fun too.

Alabama Jubilee pays the troop 10% of the gross sales in the t-shirt booth, and we credit the Scouts' "Scout Bucks" accounts with half of that. And parents that come out and help also earn scout bucks for their scout! The more hours you man the booth, the more scout bucks you earn.

This fundraiser is great for:

~teaching the boys basic salesmanship,
~having them understand they have to earn money to go on the fun trips, and
~saving their parents some money on our annual ski trip or even offset the cost of summer camp!

***Unlike popcorn, we don't have to go out and find customers, they walk right up to the tent!

***And unlike tree sales, we don't have to tie the t-shirts to the roof of their cars!

FIRST ANNUAL WIFFLE BALL GAME!

Last week we held our first annual wiffle ball game! The boys had a great time and everyone had a really great time eating! Thanks to Mr. Beihn for cooking the wonderful hot dogs! After eating Mr. Wahl broke everyone down into patrols and patrol leaders were choosen. We have choosen the new Senior and Assistant Patrol Leaders for the troop and as soon as the boys have their patrol council meeting we will have the pictures of our new leaders. Camp is a little over a month away so boys start getting ready!

The canoe trip is this weekend and last night during the troop meeting they went over safety in the water. We are off to a great summer and I know that I am excited about all the great events coming up!

A month ago the boys went to the globestrotters in Huntsville. It was really funny and I think everyone had a great time. Next up is Camporee at Point Mallard Park. It should be a funfilled weekend.

Special Troop Committee Meeting!!!!

A special called meeting of the Troop 260 Committee will take place during the regular troop meeting on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. The purpose of the meeting is for Taylor Brown to present his proposed Eagle project for committee approval. Taylor is working on this project in conjunction with the mission team for Central Methodist and the local group Rebuilding Decatur. Their timeline is relatively short and, therefore, he is attempting to get approval as quickly as possible. I would appreciate all committee members (or any others interested) attending. The Eagle project is the culmination of all of Taylor’s prior scout training and he deserves a well attended meeting. Thanks,

Chris Pettey

Interim Committee Chairman
